New trailer for Black Sunrise

Happy New Year!

As it has been almost a year since I produced the first trailer for Black Sunrise, I decided to make up a second one to give everyone another peek at the progress.

I'm hoping this year to try to finish off a large chunk of the film.  Presently, I have about 10 minutes fully completed.  However, I'm still polishing a few sections of the storyboard.  Writing for a feature-length film can be quite challenging, I've discovered - especially when you are dealing with no dialogue!

Also this year, I'm going to try to make up some tutorial videos since I get a lot of requests for them.  I imagine I will be doing one on background painting, and animation process but if there is any particular thing you'd like to see, just let me know in the comments.

Anyway, here's the trailer.  Hope you like it!

Finally, a cartoon feature with no dialogue. This should be interesting considering most animated features these days are more dialogue and little animation. BTW, have you ever seen Mary and Max? It is really good.

Hey Nick, inspiring to see you doing this largely on your own. Tutorials on backgrounds and animation would be great. I'd also like to hear about your workflow and the stages of your production. Lookin forward to seeing more as it progress :).

It would be awesome if you could share some of your animation process!

Really fantastic stuff, Nick. The quality of the visuals is something really astounding knowing that you're doing this 100% yourself! Very inspirational and while conventionally I would say "I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THIS ZOMG AWSUM!" -- I'm totally going to wait until you complete its magnificence and THEN go all fanboy

really great job, hope you could ask a question are you working all by yourself on the movie itself? Anyway, cheers!

NICK CROSS...we got it..and we got it in so many directions it's ridiculous .
INKST- ROKST- METEDST- HYSTE..what else do you want?
We'll give it to you heavier than HUMPAR.
And CROW and ROSS and SKYLARB- RICK is giving it like nobody ever gave it before.
EFCAR to RELOVA and VARIC.
ASCITE.
Such class.
And ASOCHER, even classier!
But ASETOR with BESSER and BEVOR in POONSTO and COCONS?
What will the billions of people say when they see half of HOLLYWOOD and WASHINGTON were with ZETAS and
" STARZ?"
I know what I'd say.
But I'll keep it " simple".

i wish i could help out on the project, do you have any kickstarters account dedicated to black sunrise ? or any other fund raising/paypal account ? I'm sorry i just couldn't find the infos concerning that right away...

just keep it up, this is pretty darn perfect

I did have a fundraising drive early last year. I don't know if I'm going to do one again or not.
I'll be sure to announce it far and wide if I do though!
Thanks!

awesome how fluid your animations are!
cant wait for the whole thing.

as for your tutorial, i´d love to read something about your use of metaphors and storytelling.
it looks like a lot of scenes are constructed around some weird metaphors. it feels really deep.
how do you construct those scenes?
that would be really interesting, i guess!

cheers,
störie

Is this the first movie in history to be animated by a single person? Has there been any others?

Brett W. Thompson said...

Nick you are amazing.

@ Ad : It's not the first movie by one man. there has been Killer Bean forever, Sita sings the Blues, the Thief and the Cobbler, Archon Defender, M Dot Strange's films.
However the number of people who succeeded is low, so it's going to be an awesome achievement when Black sunrise will be finished. Good luck, Nick!

"the Thief and the Cobbler" was not a one-man animation. Richard Williams had a complement of folks working for years on this film.

I am so wowed by what you are doing Nick. Keep on keepin' on!!!
