We stayed in Chelsea near to all the galleries and since the purpose of this trip was not only for a brief vacation, but also so that I could get inspired by some great artwork. The journey down was exceptionally terrible because of the huge windstorm on Friday. Our flight from Ottawa to Philadelphia was delayed for two hours and then our connecting flight to LaGuardia was cancelled. We ended up taking the bus to New York, which was an adventure unto itself. Anyway, we finally got there in tact and weary. After that, everything got fun again.
The first thing we did was to have a raw meal at Pure Food and Wine. We had wanted to go there ever since we bought the cookbook, and it was delicious! It makes me wish so much for a classy vegan (or even vegetarian) restaurant here in Ottawa, but I digress.
The next day we ate at Quintessence (see photo above)went to the Met, did some shopping at MooShoes and then went to the Jeff Soto opening at the Jonathan Levine Gallery. It was packed with people(not shown in photo) so it was hard to get a good look at the art, but it was still very impressive indeed.

Sunday started off with us eating breakfast at Blossom. Apparently we were sitting at Ethan Hawke's favorite table:
Next, we made our way up to the MoMA which is a museum I've always wanted to go to; that was really inspiring-so much art, I just wished I had more time to see all of it in detail but we found out that there was a once-in-a-lifetime Egon Shiele exhibition at the Neue Gallery. I'd never seen any of his art work in "real life" before so this was a real treat.
We topped off the day by having a great dinner at the classy Candle 79 and then met up with our friends at a comedy club in Chelsea.
Well, folks that's about it. We flew back on Monday, weary and with the feeling that we have to go back (or move there!). We love New York!

Glad you enjoyed NYC. I lived there for about 13 years and it's definitely the best city in the USA. Now I'm getting ready to give LA a try.
"I like New York in June... How 'bout yooooooou?"
Sounds like a blast!
Right on, right on. I'll let my wife know about the places you stopped...sounds like you ate at all the right places for her! (Eventually we'll be getting there, as well.)
Talk to you soon.
The owner of Quintessence is a bit of a "celebrity" in NYC. Don't ask me how I know this stuff.
Ha ha ha that's crazy!! The "self-touching rider"...who knew perverts could make such good food. I'll remember to go the next time I'm invited to PeeWee Herman's house for dinner.
i didn't know you were vegan, too. hooray! that's one of the best things about going to new york- lotsa great vegan places to eat.
Wow Nick, I went to NYC in Dec and had vegan difficulties initially as well.
It's a BIG beautiful city, I'm anxious to go back.
Nice post.

Hi Tom,
Yeah I saw your blog about New York too, that was what gave us the tip to go to Candle 79. You live in LA though, there must be some good restaurants there.
There's only a small handful here in Ottawa, and only one really good one. Plus me and Kristy are mostly raw now so that makes it even harder to eat out.
I've been reading your plog for a long time now. Just never found the time to comment. Your work is amazing. Keep up the great work!
yeah, there's some good vegan places here in L.A. though the only 2 raw places i've tried out here have been terrible and way too expensive. i ate at a great raw place in NYC, though... i think it was quintessence, but i can't remember.
to J- there's a great vegan-guide to NYC that i picked up at Hangawi 2 years ago. it has listings for everything!
i hope i make it back out to OIAF this year. i'll bug you for vegan restaurant recomendations.
Sooo....your pal Kristy is also the brilliant cartoonist, Mlle 'Schmisty'? The one whose comix I read and link to? Please tell me as that slacker Johnnie will not respond to my comments on his blog. Piker! *just kidding*
Anyway, I suspect this is so. Man, so those are the paintings she's doing in her comics, eh? I'm awed.
Oh! & you're not so bad yourself, mister.
